Club Meeting 8th December 2020 – Leadership, Change, and the Daredevil Spirit

A slightly smaller than usual meeting saw three very different but well delivered speeches, eight Table Topics, and all wonderfully facilitated by our Toastmaster, Dominic Rogers. Dom’s warm-up sought ideas for post-Covid activity which included hugging, live shows, travel, visiting family, speaking to a live audience, and belated birthday parties.

The evening’s prepared speeches were delivered by Tonderai, Steve and Marie. Tonderai—who is on the Dynamic Leadership pathway—explored the four laws of behaviour change; delving into the habits that drive positive and negative behavioural characteristics. Steve’s speech from the Presentation Mastery pathway linked the characteristics of change to the club members’ survey findings. Marie—surely soon to be known as Daredevil Wright—explored what was behind her thrill seeking, adventurous past. Three insightful evaluations were delivered by Simon, Imogen, and Steph.

The inimitable Richard Green posed the Table Topics; asking participants to focus on Christmas. It was another tight run contest with Chris (a gift for Donald Trump), Steve (an almost disastrous Christmas dinner), and Tracy (a gift of over-sized underpants) tying for joint second place. But our winner and this week’s Table Topics Champion was Imogen who explained that the most daring thing she could imagine doing under the mistletoe was Ryan Gosling!

Our Grammarian Kirsty took the innovative approach of switching from a Word of the Meeting to a Focus of the Meeting. She looked out for and described many and varied similes during the evening in her wonderful report to the meeting.
