Murphy’s Musings – From the Club President

I have just watched a blackbird walk back and forth across the roof of my neighbour’s shed 12 times. First one way then the other, then back again and so on. Maybe there was a reason, but it wasn't clear.

My mind wandered and I thought to myself, I come and go to Toastmasters every few weeks, why? I talk, I enjoy, and I leave. What have I learnt this year? The thought challenged me to stop and take stock and I encourage you to do the same, even just for a moment. Pause over a cup of tea and think, what have you learnt this year that will help improve your speaking?

We have all heard about the benefits of setting a goal. The evidence shows that writing it down and setting a time scale improves your chances of achieving it. As the author, salesman, and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar said; 'You can't hit a target you can't see.’

With that said my second question to you is this; what do you want to achieve with your speaking in 2021? Go on, write it down and let's make it happen.
